3. By choosing Dane Reynolds I hope to study a different culture that I am normally not privy to the surfing culture. Learn something completely new through him and his experiences as a surfer who has dedicated his life to it. I live in Sonoma and their really aren’t many beaches close enough where I meet and interact with a surfer kind of guy. I think of surfers as those bleach blond dudes on the beaches of Santa Monica or Ventura. On the beach with their surfboards waiting for what I’m guessing is the perfect time to hit the water. I want to learn more about the life of the surfer.
4.
a) I chose the surfer Dane Reynolds. He was born in Long Beach and his loves for surfing eventually lead his parents to move closer to the beach. There he honed his craft and entered surfing contests and began to win. I think I made a good choice picking someone I knew nothing about and will learn as much as I can from different sources about him. F
b) My choice is about learning and growth. By learning about Dane Reynolds I learn the perspective of a different person. Learn about surfing through his eyes. I’ve always been fascinated by the surfing culture from seeing a basic TV structured form of it. Enthralled by every aspect of it from the style, the art form that is surfing, the people involved to how one goes about waxing their board or why would one need to was their board. It all interests me for some odd reason so I want to learn more about it.
c) I had first chosen Bobby Martinez because he was one of the first surfers name that stood out to me from the Wikipedia website. Then I wondered if there could possibly be someone from that list that was closer to my age by one or two years. I looked through them all and Dane Reynolds was the candidate I chose. He’s a year older than I am and I figured I could possibly have more things in common with him because our age was so much closer. I probably also picked him because he’s nice to look at in my perspective. I’ve always thought it easier to learn from something that is good looking. This makes me think that I’m a tad bit superficial then again a lot of people are.
d) I learned that Dane Reynolds is more about being great at a few tricks and not being mediocre at many tricks. I would like to know how he decided that surfing was going to be it for the rest of his life.
5) One of the blogs that I read was of Anthony Musetti’s.

He explored the SFMOMA and actually went to the museum. I learned that Anthony’s views on modern art are something he has to take a step back from to learn from it and not judge by one glance. I think his view is incredibly interesting and very true. When it comes to any type of art one must take a step back and not judge on first impressions. If you only see an art piece for only a few seconds and then walk away because you don’t like it then you are not willing to learn about it and its author. I think this one thing is related culturally to our class because it is how a person is brought up that teaches them how to learn from the world around them. Someone must have let Anthony know that one must not judge a book by its cover so he decides to take a step back when it comes to art and ponder instead of judging right away.
